Ronnie Close

Ronnie Close is a writer and visual artist currently based in Cairo, Egypt. His research work explores the intersection between contemporary image culture and political events mediated through the visual media. Recently he has focused on image politics in the Middle East by looking at football based communities in art projects and publications. He is also an Assistant Professor of Photography and Media in the Department of Journalism and Media Communication at the American University in Cairo. In 2010 he was awarded a practice-based PhD in Photographic Research from the University of Wales Newport, UK. He has shown work in film festivals and exhibitions throughout Europe, North America and the Middle East. Some venues include: The Photographer’s Gallery London, (2015), QUAD Art Gallery, (2014) Derby, UK, Brighton Photo Biennial, UK (2012), The Kassel Documentary Film & Video Festival (2011), and Picture This Gallery (2010). He has published articles and book chapters in image media theory journals and some of these include: Architecture and Film book (2016), Architecture and Culture Magazine, (2014), The Philosophy of Photography Magazine, (2013), and his project works have been reviewed in Frieze Magazine, (2013), PhotoWorks Magazine, (2012).
