Mark LeVine is a professor of modern Middle Eastern history at UC Irvine and distinguished visiting professor at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University. Among his recent books are “Heavy Metal Islam: Rock, Resistance and the Struggle for the Soul of Islam” (Random House, 2008), the documentary of which “Before the Spring, After the Fall”, will soon air on US Public Television, and “Struggle and Survival in Palestine/Israel” (UC Press, 2012). His new book, with Ambassador Mathias Mossberg, “One Land, Two States: Israel and Palestine as Parallel States”, will be published this spring by UC Press. He’s presently writing a book exploring the deep histories and cultural politics of the Arab uprisings.
