Expats rank Egypt 40th out of 45 countries for raising a family

Egypt ranked 40th out of 45 countries worldwide in which to raise a family, according to HSBC’s Expat Explorer Survey of around 27,000 expatriates.

Sweden ranked first, followed by the Czech Republic and Singapore.

In addition to raising a family, the survey included two other measures relating to expatriate experiences and the economic conditions of the surveyed countries. Considering these indicators, Egypt ranked 44th out of 45, followed only by Brazil.

Expats largely said Egypt is good for integration, social life and closeness with a partner, but is not a good environment for tolerance, education, healthcare, childcare and quality of life.

Survey respondents said property is easy to own in Egypt, and cited personal safety and friendships among other positive factors in the country.

It is relatively easy to balance a personal life and work in Egypt, those surveyed asserted, and job security is fairly high. Among the negative factors cited were a reduction in disposable income and lack of economic confidence in general.

Bahrain ranked ninth, the first among Arab countries for expats, followed by the UAE, which ranked 12th, Oman 18th, while Qatar came in 29th place, Saudi Arabia 31st, and Kuwait 35th.

In terms of overall ranking, Singapore topped the list as the best country for expats to live in, followed by New Zealand, Canada and the Czech Republic.
