At this year’s Mada Market, we have focused on creating an engaging experience for the whole family and providing fun spaces and activities for kids with the help of our participating brands.
Throughout the day, kids will have the chance to participate in soccer challenges, talent-building classes, and different arts and crafts activities. There will also be a performance by street clowning troupe Outa Hamra (Red Tomato), who will present their show Super Duda at the park. Popcorn and cotton candy will be available while each participating brand in our Kids’ Zone offers a variety of educational activities.
With technology acting as a key enabler, the Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) serves as a hub for knowledge production and sharing, to build and strengthening communities in the region.
ADEF brings together techies, artists, activists, youth leaders, educationalists and others to collaborate to build spaces, foster environments, enhance skills and develop tools to support individuals and groups working on the ground to develop and strengthen their practices and engagement with society.
This summer, ADEF runs its 10th Arab Digital Expression Camp (ADEC), an annual two-week summer program for young people aged from 12 to 15 from across the Arab world whoare trained by mentors just 10 years their senior.
At the camp, participants build their own program by choosing workshops in their fields of interest, ranging from video-making, blogging and creating clean energy to visual design, contemporary dance, theater, storytelling, acting and sports.
At the Mada Market, ADEF will hold a Makers workshop from 2 to 3 pm, in which participants will learn how to use 3D printers to print a small object with programs such as GIMP and Blender. The workshop derives from ADEC’s Makers workshops, where participants learn about electricity, electronics and renewable energy resources.
The name of this art project evokes images of paint brushes sprinkling colors, and that is exactly what Tartasha sets out to do.
The independent art project aims at disseminating the art of Ebru in Egypt, a traditional Turkish painting method that uses painting on water and then printing it on paper. Tartasha conducts Ebru workshops and implements Ebru designs on different objects and home decoration items at different cultural centers, schools and events.
Founded in 2010 by Deena Osama and Nihal Nour – two Ebru artists – Tartasha targets both adults and children over four years old.
At Mada Market, Tartasha will be displaying some of its products for sale, as well as holding workshops to teach participants to create their own masterpieces.
Mother and daughter duo Salwa Buisier and Dina SeifElNasr set out to create an indoor and outdoor playground for children under one and up to seven years old.
Located in the heart of Mohandiseen, Sherby’s provides a spacious playground in the bustling Giza neighborhood.
Named after SeifElNasr’s own pet cat – who is also the playground’s mascot – Sherby’s is not your average nursery, because kids can enjoy the play area with their parents and guardian present throughout the day, or on their own under the staff’s observation.
Sherby’s focuses on “play-based education,” according to SeifElNasr, whereby children learn through the various fun activities like painting, go-carting, acting and singing.
As parents browse through the Mada Market, their kids can enjoy the activities Sherby’s has in store for Saturday, including arts and crafts as well as an appearance by the mascot himself. Sherby’s booth will also boast a popcorn machine and cotton-candy stand.
